Gillette- Consumer Decisions

Gillette's new marketing strategy as mentioned in the previous blog does indeed set the benchmark for social media marketing. Their new marketing strategy hits all the 4 E’s: Excite, Engage, Educate, and Experience. However, does this new social media scheme affect consumer decisions? I believe, that when it comes to a razor company, old habits come into play and it takes a lot for consumers to alter their decisions, once they've made it. Gillette's marketing, however, seems to show a different idea. For consumers to make a purchasing decision, they first need to feel a need or a desire. For a product that falls in the more hygiene department, awakening the need is not necessarily difficult. Gillette- The good, the bad, the not so much Gillette is an American brand of safety razors and other personal care products including shaving supplies, owned by the multi-national corporation Procter & Gamble. What started off as a brand for men, now also has a sub brand called "Gillette Venus" which also caters to women's products too. Almost exactly a year ago, Gillette came out with their newest advertisement. A company that for years had  capitalized on their mottos of "The Best a Man can do", completely rebranded in an attempt to counter toxic masculinity. The advertisement showed numerous instances of catcalling, harassment and other taboo issues faced in society, and brutally countered the excuse of "boys will be boys".
